I went with the other kindergarten resident, Ms. Robertson, and we spent over an hour picking the perfect plants for our kids to grow. We ended up with some that were already grown, and others that will grow from seeds. We wanted to have this combination because we wanted our students to see the plants produce fruits and vegetables, but we also want them to see what it’s like to grow a plant from a seed. Now, they will get the best of both worlds!
Some of the plants we picked are: tomatoes, cucumber, green beans, peppers, and marigolds (flower). For seeds, we picked up a variety of flowers (including sunflowers), and produce like lettuce and spinach. We spent a lot of time looking for the plants that had the shortest maturity/harvest time.
Lowe’s also supplied us with bird netting. This will keep our gardens safe from raccoons, squirrels, and cats that often visit our campus when we’re not there! The bird netting will keep the unwanted visitors out, but also not hurt our students if they happen to touch it and it will not rust!
We are so excited to start this project!!!!
