I, and a few of the other girls from my program, attended the Mastering Earth Science training. It was a 5 hour training that was separated by grade level. Three of us spent our time in the kindergarten session, learning the unit inside and out—content, lesson ideas, addressing misconceptions, connecting to common core, and more!

There were many other activities that we did, so below I will post a picture with a short description of each. I am planning on using many of these in my classroom!
Constellation Maker: With a toilet paper roll, cover one side with tinfoil. Poke holes to make a pattern, letter, number, etc. Turn off the lights, shine a flashlight under the open side of the roll, and shine on ceiling. Look at your constellation!
- Poke a hole in an index card. Go outside and look at an object (such as a tree) through the hole. Back up until you can see the entire tree through the hole. This teaches that things look smaller farther away, and bigger close up.
Balance: Try balancing a piece of paper (cut into a W) on your finger. Then, add paper clips to the sides. How does this object balance? What helps it to balance?
Make your own constellations: Using a white crayon or pencil on black paper, draw an outline of a picture and connect it using star stickers. You’ve made your own constellation!
